ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) An Albuquerque physician suspended by the state Medical Board says he misunderstood the question during a hearing when he answered that he certifies nearly all the patients he screens to use medical marijuana. The Albuquerque Journal reports that Dr. Nicholas Nardacci said during an April hearing that he certifies 98 percent of the patients he screens. However, Nardacci says he was confused by the question and that he actually rejects certification for about a third of patients he screens.
A Medical Board hearing officer's report says Nardacci apparently thought he was being asked how many of the patients he certifies go on to obtain final state approval to use medical marijuana.
Nardacci has denied wrongdoing and is appealing his suspension from practice.
