SANTA FE PLANS NEW COMPACTS FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) Santa Fe's public school system is moving to set new performance goals and transparency standards and for its four charter schools, a move that's surprised some of the schools' operators. The planned compacts would be customized for each school and be used in the process of renewing charters for the schools in 2015.

Under the state's A-through-F grading system for schools, one of the district's two charter schools got A grades, one received a C and the fourth got an F.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that school representatives who appeared at the school district board's meeting Tuesday generally voiced support for greater accountability. But they also said they just heard about the plans for compact.
