ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) A University of New Mexico School of Medicine resident intern jumped to help victims of the Boston Marathon explosions just minutes after she completed the race as a runner. Danielle Deines, a children's resident physician at UNM, told The Associated Press on Tuesday she was receiving treatment for cramps in the runners' tent when the two explosions went off next to her.
The 31-year-old Asheville, N.C., native says she told nurses that she was a physician and immediately began helping medical staff with injured victims by setting up IVs and helping check incoming runners. The Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate says she saw injuries ranging from cuts to lost limbs.
Federal investigators say no one has claimed responsibility for the bombings.
