ESCAPEE’S LAWYERS PLAN MENTAL HEALTH EVIDENCE

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) Defense lawyers for an Arizona prison escapee charged with killing an Oklahoma couple in New Mexico plan to present evidence that he has a mental defect or disease. John McCluskey is scheduled to go on trial in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque in July in the 2010 killings of Gary and Linda Haas of Tecumseh, Okla. They were abducted at a rest stop near Santa Rosa.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, McCluskey's lawyers disclosed in a court filing that they plan to present expert testimony by a forensic neuropsychologist about clinical tests performed on McCluskey. He was among three inmates who escaped from a privately operated state prison in Kingman, Ariz., on July 30, 2010.
