Albuquerque (KKOB)- I-40 is now open after being completely shutdown between Wyoming and Juan Tabo at Eubank due to and officer involved shooting that happened overnight.
Police say the incident began since 3:30 in the afternoon when they got several reports of someone driving recklessly on I-40 in the wrong direction near Eubank. Another car was sideswipped as well with no injuries.
The man abandoned his vehicle and located him in the area of Eubank near a car dealership and he pointed a gun at officers. The APD SWAT Team was called and that’s when the freeway was shutdown in both directions for the public’s safety. The man also shot at a police drone, SWAT negotiators tried to negotiate with him for six hours with no solution.
The man was shot and killed at the scene by police.
Police say they will not release his name yet. But they do say he has an extensive criminal history.
