Jim Villanucci

  • In 1991, Jim Villanucci was in Los Angeles, working an engineering job he hated and hoping to break through as a stand-up comedian. “At one point,” he said, “I realized there were a hundred other guys there who looked like me and were just as funny, so I had to find a way to stand out.” The solution became clear when an idea struck one day while driving in his car: “I should do talk radio!” In addition to comedic training, he credits these results with meticulous show preparation and an “almost frightening” drive to succeed. Jim now continues his undefeated ratings trend at 96.3 News Radio KKOB in Albuquerque where listener interest and participation have followed Jim’s return. Jim’s career has long focused on politics, pop culture and sports, but Jim focuses on bringing people together, something he has tried to do his entire career. “I’m vulnerable in exposing my own flaws and people are just comfortable talking to me,” he said. “I can’t entirely explain it, but I know that just being myself is what works… this is what I was born to do.”
