Darren White, known as one of the “best political minds” with deep roots in New Mexico politics, is the host of the of the 1-3pm show on News Radio KKOB.
Darren is nationally known as a public safety expert and advocate. Mr. White has a long history in public service. He served in the United States Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division. Following his military career, White served both the Houston and Albuquerque Police departments, where he was named honor graduate of both academies.
Darren currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Security Director of PūrLife. PūrLife is a Licensed Non-Profit Producer with the State of New Mexico Medical Cannabis Program, that operates a state-of-the-art indoor cultivation facility and two dispensaries. Gov. Gary Johnson appointed White to head the New Mexico Department of Public Safety and the New Mexico State Police in 1995. At 31, White was the youngest state public safety director in the country.
In 1999, White took a unique direction with his career and joined the news staff at KRQE-TV, Albuquerque’s CBS affiliate. In 2002, White was elected Sheriff of Bernalillo County, and was re-elected in 2006 by an overwhelming margin. Mayor Richard J. Berry appointed White as Albuquerque’s Public Safety Director in December 2009. As the Public Safety Director, White was in charge of the Albuquerque’s police and fire departments, the Emergency Management Office and the Safe City Strike Force. Darren’s honors include the Jefferson award in 1983 from the covet American Institute for Public Service, as well as being listed by the Aspen Institute as a”true rising star” in American politics.
