Governor Martinez hopes to negotiate a deal with a Mexican airline for direct flights between Mexico City, Chihuahua, Guadalajara, and Albuquerque. The governor met with Volaris Airline executives on Thursday to discuss the deal.
The State Tourism Department says more than 347,000 Mexicans visited the state in 2015- up nearly 4% from 2014. But Martinez says they flew to states surrounding New Mexico to get here.
The governor is in the early stages of talks with Volaris and hopes to have something worked out for next year.
