Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –On Thursday, NM’s Attorney General Raul Torrez visited Las Cruces where one of several National Integrated Ballistic Information Network machines is now being used at the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office. NM is the first state to organize a statewide crime gun intelligence center with machines in San Juan County, Gallup, Albuquerque, Roswell and Las Cruces. Detectives will be able to add ballistic evidence from casings and test-fired weapons into a federal database which could match evidence from local investigations to crimes in other jurisdictions around the country. The NMDOJ says the new state of the art system has already matched 10 firearms to 24 separate incidents statewide. AG Torrez stressed that more agencies need to use the technology and add to its database which can only lead to identifying more suspects and witnesses involved in crimes across the state.
