CLOVIS, N.M. — Clovis Police have released new details in a homicide investigation stemming from a late‑night shooting last month.
Officers were dispatched to reports of gunfire near Grand and Calhoun Streets at about 12:28 a.m. on March 22. Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting that several people had been shot. Police and Clovis Fire Department EMS responded to the scene.
Multiple victims were transported to Plains Regional Medical Center with varying degrees of injury. Police say a 17‑year‑old female was later flown to a hospital in the Lubbock, Texas area with life‑threatening injuries. One victim, identified as 21‑year‑old Lyrasha Haskins, died.
The Clovis Police Department Major Crimes Unit was activated to investigate the homicide. On March 30, investigators located a suspected vehicle at a local recycler and seized it with a search warrant. Following interviews and a review of surveillance video, three individuals were identified as possible suspects.
Police say 19‑year‑old Kaleb Josue Moreno‑Ponce later turned himself in and was taken into custody. He faces multiple felony charges, including first‑degree murder.
An arrest warrant was also issued for 18‑year‑old Enrique Padilla. On Thursday morning, April 2, officers responding to an unrelated call at a home in the 100 block of Mesa Avenue took Padilla into custody. Police say a firearm was located nearby inside a detached garage. Investigators later confirmed Padilla was not involved in the initial call that brought officers to the home.
The investigation remains ongoing.
