ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – New Mexico State Police Chief Troy Weisler has announced his retirement. In an email sent to staff on Tuesday, Weisler said he will step down from the department. A spokesperson for New Mexico State Police confirmed his retirement will be effective Friday, March 13.
Weisler is the 23rd chief to lead the agency. He joined State Police in 2002 as a patrol officer in Deming and Moriarty before moving into investigative roles in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. In 2021, he was promoted to deputy chief.
In his message to staff, Weisler acknowledged questions about the department’s future. He wrote that he has full confidence in the State Police Chief’s Staff and expects an interim or permanent chief to be named by the end of next week.
