APD Use of Force Training Criticized

The Albuquerque Police Department says all officers have gone through new use of force training. That’s outlined in the Justice Department latest report card on the department that runs from April through July. But the monitoring team expressed concerns over how police managers responded to cases involving use of force. Of 20 cases the team reviewed, it found problems in all 20 cases.

Chief Gorden Eden says they take action as soon as they notice any confusion among officers in training.

The report also says tactical teams like the bomb squad are doing a better job of deescalating situations.
