Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court is warning community members about a new scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming recipients owe outstanding traffic fines. The court says it has received numerous reports of individuals receiving text messages stating they have unpaid traffic fines and must submit payment within two days or show up to court to avoid additional fines, license suspension, and court enforcement. Officials said the text messages include a payment link not associated with the courts. Court Executive Officer Lissa Quintana says that the Metropolitan Court does not contact individuals by text message nor phone if they owe outstanding fines – that would only be communicated through the regular mail.
