ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – A popular piece of Albuquerque nostalgia is on its way back. The former Putt‑Putt Golf & Games at 5100 San Mateo NE — once a family favorite for mini golf, arcade games, and birthday parties — is being revived under new management and is expected to reopen this spring.
For weeks, a sign outside the shuttered attraction has hinted at a comeback, prompting curiosity from longtime fans. Now, the property’s owner confirms a new operator connected to local brewery Brew Lab is taking over the space. Brew Lab, which runs locations in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho, said a sister company is behind the project. While full details aren’t being released yet, the team says they aim to create “a great place for the community, families and people of all ages.”
Putt‑Putt first opened in 1972, becoming a go‑to destination for generations of Albuquerque families before closing suddenly in 2017. The venue once featured a restaurant, classic arcade, and its distinctive animal‑themed outdoor course — complete with the zebra and giraffe statues that still stand along San Mateo today.
The property is owned by G3 Investors LLC, part of the Garcia family, which also owns the Garcia Automotive Group. The family purchased the site off‑market after the business closed and fielded numerous inquiries from potential tenants over the years. Carlos Garcia, general manager of the group, said they waited for a proposal that would bring the “best use” to what he called “one of the best corners in the city.”
While the business name and full concept haven’t been officially announced, Brew Lab’s owner confirmed that “something is in the works” and that more information will be released in the coming weeks. Plans include reopening the mini‑golf course and adding beer service — a move aimed at attracting both families and adults.
The project has already generated excitement among residents who remember the venue in its heyday. With its high‑visibility location, ample parking, and decades‑long legacy, interest in the site has remained strong since its closure.
The new operator plans to relaunch the venue this spring, with more details on branding, renovations, and the full entertainment lineup expected soon. For now, the iconic giraffes and zebras remain — a reminder of one of Albuquerque’s most recognizable attractions preparing for its next chapter.
