ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – The Albuquerque Police Department has implemented a new pay structure that raises wages for officers at all career stages. The updated rates took effect February 1, reflecting the department’s ongoing effort to improve recruitment and retention.
Under the new structure, police cadets now earn $30.75 per hour, while Police Officers 2/C, who are in their one‑year probationary period after graduating the academy, earn $31.49 per hour. Police Officers 1/C with one to four years of experience will receive $38.10 per hour, with additional longevity pay starting in year four at $3,900 annually.
APD leadership says the increases are part of a broader investment in building and maintaining a strong police workforce.
Interim Chief Cecily Barker said the updated pay rates recognize the daily work and commitment of APD officers and help the department stay competitive in hiring. The changes also aim to support officers as they advance through their careers.
The department continues to recruit new applicants. Those interested in law enforcement careers can contact APD Recruiting at 505‑343‑5040 or follow APD Recruiting on social media for updates.
