Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Promising numbers from the state’s department of game and fish. Biologists have found that brown trout are above historic averages in Cimarron and Red River. Last fall, biologists conducted a trout population survey. The department conducts routine surveys of rivers and streams around the state to monitor fish population and the overall health of aquatic ecosystems. To gather an accurate estimate of how many fish are in the river, they use electrical currents to safely shock the fish.
