Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — New Mexico has joined a multistate lawsuit challenging the USDA’s suspension of SNAP benefits during the federal government shutdown. Attorney General Raul Torrez says the agency has access to billions in emergency funds and is unlawfully withholding aid. The lawsuit, backed by 23 attorneys general and three governors, seeks a court order to restore benefits. About 450,000 New Mexicans rely on SNAP, and Torrez warns the lapse could have serious economic and humanitarian consequences.
