ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Newly released information reveals that Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a panic alarm at Forthright Auto on September 20, 2025. Upon arrival, deputies found the front glass door shattered and called in drone and K9 support to secure the scene.
During the response, deputies encountered 41-year-old Jonathan Dykstra on the property. A deputy-involved shooting occurred after Dykstra reportedly fired three rounds. One deputy returned fire. Dykstra fled but was later found with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators recovered a stolen handgun near Dykstra, believed to have been taken during the burglary. Evidence at the scene included spent casings and projectiles from both the suspect and deputy.
Dykstra had an extensive criminal history and active warrants at the time. The deputy involved was identified as Marco Baldonado.
The incident remains under investigation by a multi-agency task force, including BCSO, APD, New Mexico State Police, and the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office.
