Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — CYFD is planning to open a new group home for children 12 and older in Las Cruces in the coming months to deal with the number of youth staying in department offices. The agency says the new center will provide on-site behavioral health services and will serve as a short-term solution until proper foster placements are found for at-risk children. Child welfare advocates are against the move, arguing group homes are harmful to children and cite the state’s history of failing to care for youth, some who have ultimately died in similar settings.
