Albuquerque police have charged two teens in connection with the murder of 17-year-old Angelo Tafoya. The shooting happened Tuesday night during a drug and gun transaction that escalated into a robbery in the parking lot of the Ridge Apartments on Tramway Boulevard.
According to APD, 18-year-old Austin Olimb admitted to shooting Tafoya during the exchange. Detectives say Olimb fired twice, then shot two more times “just to double check” Tafoya was dead. Ezekiel Ulibarri, 17, was also charged. Investigators say the two conspired to rob Tafoya and were involved in multiple vehicle thefts.
The teens were arrested on September 17 by Bernalillo County deputies while driving a stolen red Hyundai Elantra. Two firearms were found in the vehicle. Detectives later linked them to a stolen blue Hyundai Elantra seen fleeing the scene of the shooting.
Both suspects face multiple charges, including murder, armed robbery, conspiracy, tampering with evidence, and unlawful taking of motor vehicles.
