ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A major milestone in New Mexico’s healthcare and education landscape was marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Touro College of Dental Medicine (TCDM) facility in Albuquerque. The event celebrated the launch of the state’s first pre-doctoral dental school and clinical training center, welcoming its inaugural class of 100 students.
The 70,000-square-foot facility, located at 2425 Ridgecrest Dr. SE, features more than 100 dental units, allowing students to complete hands-on clinical training while providing affordable dental care to underserved communities across New Mexico.
The ceremony included remarks from Albuquerque elected officials, Touro University leaders, and New Mexico Dental Association executives, followed by the symbolic placement of a mezuzah and the official ribbon cutting.
TCDM’s mission is to address the state’s shortage of oral healthcare professionals—New Mexico currently has about 20% fewer dentists than the national average. The new facility aims to close that gap by training future dental professionals and offering low-cost services to residents who may otherwise struggle to access care.
Under supervision from licensed instructors, students will perform dental exams and procedures for patients who may not be able to afford traditional dental services or face long wait times.
Touro University officials say the opening represents a long-term investment in improving oral health outcomes for New Mexicans of all ages and income levels.
