Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –The Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center is going digital. Hand-delivered mail will be replaced with scanned digital copies inmates can review on a tablet. A third-party service will scan the mail off-site. Then, MDC staff will review the document for any violations of the inmate mail policy. Effective Friday, physical copies of books, magazines and other written literature, will no longer be accepted. Inmates can access the materials through a digital library, also available on tablets. The MDC will continue physically delivering legal mail, internal education materials and other approved documents.
