Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Monday, Rep. Matthew McQueen of Galisteo announced his candidacy in the 2026 Democratic primary for New Mexico Commissioner of Public Lands. This follows Jonas Moya, a rancher from Tucumcari and former Biden-appointed state director for the Farm Service Agency, announcement of his candidacy on June 24th. The two joining the first Democratic candidate Juan Sanchez, a former natural resource specialist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and consultant for the New Mexico Acequia Commission, who announced his run in April. As of Monday, no Republican candidates had filed to run.
