ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) The University of New Mexico is building an electronic portal that will give the public access to the manuscripts, notes and ideas of the late author Tony Hillerman. The university will be hosting a preview event Friday evening at Zimmerman Library.
Hillerman donated his manuscripts, papers and notes to the library in 2005. Officials say that given HIllerman's stature in New Mexico literary culture and the exhaustive nature of the collection, it was clear there was an opportunity to make the materials available for research, education and public enjoyment.
University Libraries received an anonymous gift in 2011 to help fund the project. The portal marks the first phase of the three-year project. The portal will include hyperlinked text, digital images, audio and video.
