Pets of the Week | Oct 31

Happy Halloween! Just a little reminder…you may love the costumes and scary sounds with children coming to trick or treat but your pets most likely do not enjoy the holiday. The constant door bell ringing can be frustrating and make a pet fearful. Costumes also can frighten a pet enough the run out the front door or jump a wall/gate when they never did before. Try locking them in a back room or bedroom until the festivities are over. Lastly, remember chocolate is deadly to dogs.

Our sweet shy gal Alyx is showering our volunteers with kisses but would be so very happy to find her forever home. She is now one of our Pit Bull Ambassadors showing off all the great attributes of her breed.

The second dog Roxy that we featured last week went home Saturday!

Our marketing director Desiree Cawley had lots of impressive numbers for us to report for our Pit Bull Awareness Day and month. Over the month of October there were a total of 38 classes with a total of 211 dogs attending all those Saturday classes. 50 Pit Bull mixes found their forever homes. 41 Pit Bull mixes now have microchips if they get lost and best of all 48 spay/neuter vouchers were given out so that many fewer unwanted/unplanned litters will be coming to our shelter.

This week we are featuring two more of our little dogs. These two little sweet hearts did not come in together but through happenstance they are now kenneled together and are fast friends. Each of them would like to find a safe happy loving forever home. They do not have to go home together just because they are kennel mates. But, if you are looking for two…..

Betty (ID#A 1725413) is a 6 year old, female blond smooth coated Chihuahua mix. She weighs 11 pounds. She loves to take daily walks and walks nicely on leash. Usually she takes her walks with her kennel mate Bella Sera. They have become fast friends and are very cute when snuggling together. Betty was found to be family friendly and dog friendly but no wild children for her please. She is a gentle soft girl that would like a calm quiet home. She give the best little kisses and is super sweet. She has attended our little dog play groups with her kennel mate Bella Sera as well as several other dogs. She enjoys socializing with a little playful running but she is not a wild gal. Our little dog play group leaders say Betty is AWESOME! Betty is ready to find her forever family at our Eastside shelter. Take her out and offer her a bit of lap time and you will fall in love on the spot.

Bella Sera (ID# A 1723352) is a 3 year old, female tan Smooth Coated Chihuahua mix. This little gal weighs 7 pounds. She came to us a little lost girl. She was found to be family friendly and dog friendly. She attends our little dog play groups and does well. She is quite playful. Our little dog play group leaders say Bella Sera likes to hold onto her play mates with her arms during play.  When our vet staff checked her they found she had old pelvic fractures that healed without treatment but she runs and plays like any other dog she just has a skip when she runs. It seems she has no pain but if her left hip is pushed too hard or grabbed it can be a bit painful so we feel young children would be too rough for Bella Sera. She is a real cuddle bug that loves lap time and is quite gentle. She is curious, outgoing and friendly. She and her kennel mate Betty get along very well together and are very cute when they curl up to snuggle in bed. Bella Sera walks nicely on leash and really enjoys daily walks. She is a super cuddle bug and dearly loves her “lap time”.  Come to our Eastside shelter to meet this pretty girl.

For those in our community that are more feline minded we have an adoption event for you!

Through the rest of this year, 2015 all cats that are 10 year or older have a reduced adoption fee of $5.00 Yes, that still includes all the vaccinations, microchip and city license.

Older companions are just the best. You know exactly what you are getting, what you see is what you get. No crazy kittens getting into things here. Older animals really know how lucky they are when they find you.

With the colder weather coming who doesn’t need an extra lap warmer. Then when summer arises you and your feline can share the view and breeze from an open window, perhaps watching those birds outside.

Come find your perfect feline at any of our three locations.
