CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) Police say a Carlsbad man who tried to avoid arrest by giving police a fake name was arrested after making a key mistake. The alias he gave police, according to authorities, had a warrant out for his arrest. The Carlsbad Current-Argus reports that the arrest came after Carlsbad police responded to a call last week about loud music. Officers identified a shed where the music was coming from, and a man came out identifying himself as Shaun Paul. Carlsbad officers were told by dispatchers that Shaun Paul had a warrant out for his arrest through the Eddy County Sheriff's Office.
But authorities say the man, later identified as Shaun Paneral, then began running from officers. He was later caught and arrested.
It was unclear if Paneral had an attorney.
