ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) Former New Mexico basketball coach Steve Alford is thanking the Lobos' fans. Alford shocked New Mexico by leaving for UCLA but he returned to Albuquerque this week for an awards banquet involving his son.
In a letter published by the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday, Alford says he and his family received “unbelievable support'' from fans and the entire community. He also says he and his family will always have a deep appreciation for their six years in New Mexico.
