SILVER CITY, N.M. — Two men are now in custody in connection with a shooting that left a 17‑year‑old girl critically injured in Silver City last month.
Police say the shooting happened March 29, when the teenage girl was riding as a passenger in a vehicle that came under gunfire. Authorities say the girl was struck in the head and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Silver City police identified several people connected to the shooting and arrested 37‑year‑old Abran Travis Grijalva and 26‑year‑old Espirideon Varela.
Grijalva is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, shooting at a motor vehicle, and additional felony counts. Varela has been charged with probation violation and illegal possession of a firearm.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing and additional arrests are expected.
