Las Cruces, N.M. — New Mexico meat processing businesses will be able to apply for a share of approximately $3 million in state grant funding beginning April 13, according to the New Mexico Department of Agriculture.
The New Mexico Local Meat Processing Grant is funded through a one‑time appropriation from the 2026 legislative session. The program is open to New Mexico‑based slaughter, processing, and value‑added meat facilities, including federally inspected, state‑inspected, and custom‑exempt operations.
Grant funding will support projects focused on either waste material equipment or technology investments. Eligible uses include wastewater systems, composting equipment, byproduct processing tools, and other upgrades designed to improve efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance.
The department says the investment is intended to strengthen meat processing capacity statewide and support modernization efforts across the industry.
Applications will be accepted from April 13 through May 15, 2026, through the department’s Submittable platform. Grant funds are non‑recurring and must be fully spent by June 30, 2027.
Businesses with questions about the program can contact the New Mexico Department of Agriculture for additional information.
