Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –Albuquerque’s City Council adopted a proposition last night that will be sent to voters to decide in this November general election. The proposition aims to amend the City’s charter to require an appointment and confirmation of the Director of Albuquerque Community Safety and therefore designating the position as ACS Chief. The proposition states that ACS is a public safety department that responds to behavioral health, homelessness, and other community safety calls. It further states that ACS plays a critical role in the City’s coordinated emergency response system along with APD and Albuquerque Fire Rescue. If approved by voters in November the proposition will take affect January 1st 2027.
