Albuquerque,NM (KKOB) – Albuquerque has opened a new transitional housing facility aimed at helping young adults experiencing homelessness.
The Gateway Young Adult Housing Navigation Center will serve people between the ages of 18 and 24, providing temporary housing along with case management and life-skills training. City officials say the center is designed to address a gap for young people who age out of the foster care system and no longer qualify for CYFD services, but are still too young to comfortably navigate traditional homeless shelters. The facility was built at a cost of 17 million dollars and will be operated by Youth Development Inc. The city says the first residents are expected to be accepted within the next few days.
