Santa Fe, NM (KKOB) – Jurors are deliberating today (Monday) the case of New Mexico vs Meta. Closing arguments were yesterday as the state accuses Meta of knowingly allowing child sexual exploitation on Facebook and Instagram. State attorney Linda Singer, saying, “Meta knew what was happening on its platform. It knew it in detail.”specifically highlighting Meta’s age policy requiring users to be at least 13 years old, the state argues that the company “failed to screen those accounts from inappropriate and unlawful activity and conduct, and it collected and used data from those children.” also using algorithms that helped to maximize teen engagement. The state is now asking jurors impose a penalty of more than $2 billion against Meta. Closing arguments went on for six hours before the case was handed to the jury.
