Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – A man who shot a New Mexico State Police lieutenant back in 2022 was found guilty on Thursday of several charges related to the incident that happened east of Albuquerque. Caleb Elledge and his girlfriend, Alana Martinez, were using drugs inside a gas station near Edgewood when Lt. Jeremy Vaughn was flagged down by an employee. When Lt. Vaughan approached Elledge’s vehicle, Elledge rammed the patrol car and took off down a two-lane road at speeds over 100 mph. Lt. Vaughan executed a Pit maneuver to stop the car and once the vehicle was stopped, Elledge got out of the vehicle and shot Lt. Vaughan wounding him in the neck. Elledge and Martinez fled on foot but were arrested the next day. Elledge was later sentenced to 9 years in federal prison in 2024 on federal charges. Last year, the state arraigned him on multiple state charges related to the shooting of the NMSP officer and following his conviction Thursday he will be sentenced at a later date.
