Albuquerque,NM (KKOB) – The University of New Mexico is marking a culinary milestone after its campus executive chef won a regional competition. Chef Franco Lossio, took first place at the Aramark Culinary Excellence Competition held recently at the University of Nevada–Las Vegas, earning a spot in the national championships this July.
Lossio, who was born in Peru, moved to the U.S. in his early 20s and has built a 15-year career in professional and collegiate kitchens across the country. He now oversees UNM’s campus dining operations. Court officials say earlier this year he also earned a Pro Chef III certification from the Culinary Institute of America.
UNM leaders say the win brings national attention to campus dining as Lossio prepares to represent the university at nationals later this summer.
