Hobbs. NM (KKOB) – A 17-year-old girl in Hobbs has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of her infant.
According to investigators, the case came to light last week after an 8-month-old was taken to the hospital in a vegetative state. A CYFD investigator alerted law enforcement to possible abuse. Doctors reported the infant had a broken leg, detached retinas, brain swelling, and multiple bruised organs. The child later died at the hospital. A medical expert determined the cause of death was shaken baby syndrome. The teen mother is now facing charges of intentional child abuse resulting in death and first-degree murder.
