Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — An emergency vote by Otero County commissioners to renew a detention contract with ICE is now under scrutiny. State Representative Sarah Silva has requested the New Mexico Attorney General investigate whether the county’s actions violated state law. The five-year contract was approved during a brief emergency meeting earlier this month, just weeks before a new state law banning such agreements takes effect. County officials say the contract was necessary to meet financial obligations tied to the facility.
