Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – On a 5–4 vote, the city council approved an ordinance restricting Immigration and Customs Enforcement from using city-owned property for immigration enforcement purposes. Councilors Brook Bassan, Dan Champine, Renee Grout, and Dan Lewis voted against the ordinance. The measure directs city employees to work together to identify city-owned and city-controlled locations—including parking lots, vacant lots, garages, and parks—that cannot be used as staging areas or for immigration enforcement operations.
In November, Bernalillo County commissioners approved a similar policy, meaning the restrictions now apply both within city limits and across the county.
