ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – New Mexico State Police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a deadly shooting that happened on Highway 14 last summer.
According to investigators, officers were called around 10 p.m. on August 9, 2025, to the area of Milepost 29, where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound inside his vehicle. The victim has been identified as Patrick Wheeler, who later died from his injuries.
State Police say Wheeler was driving along Highway 14 when an unidentified man on a motorcycle pulled alongside his vehicle and opened fire. The motorcyclist sped away, and police have not released a description of the suspect or the bike. A possible motive has also not been determined.
Authorities have not said whether there were any witnesses on the roadway at the time or if they are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes or businesses.
Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward.
