Delegates at the Democratic Party of New Mexico’s pre‑primary convention delivered strong support for Deb Haaland in the race for governor, giving her more than 73% of the vote over challenger Sam Bregman. The vote took place over the weekend at the Inn of the Mountain Gods on the Mescalero Apache Nation, with roughly 1,000 delegates participating.
According to results released by the party, Haaland received 733 votes (73.52%), while Bregman received 264 votes (26.48%). Both candidates qualify for the June primary ballot.
Delegates also cast ballots in several statewide races, including lieutenant governor, where Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver received 58.37%, ahead of State Sen. Harold Pope Jr., who received 41.63%. Candidates who did not meet the 20% threshold may still qualify for the ballot by submitting additional petition signatures.
The Democratic Party also released results for congressional, judicial, and additional statewide offices. Several incumbents and candidates ran unopposed and secured automatic ballot access. In the U.S. Senate race, Sen. Ben Ray Luján received 85.91%, while challenger Matt Dodson received 14.09%. All three Democratic members of Congress—Melanie Stansbury, Gabe Vasquez, and Teresa Leger Fernandez—received 100% delegate support.
Other statewide results included:
- Attorney General: Raúl Torrez at 100%
- Secretary of State: Katharine Clark (46.18%), Amanda López Askin (35.84%), Sonya Smith (17.97%)
- State Treasurer: Laura Montoya at 100%

- Commissioner of Public Lands: Juan De Jesus Sanchez (55.81%), Matthew McQueen (37.01%), Jonas Moya (7.18%)

The results determine ballot placement ahead of the June 2 primary and signal early support levels within the Democratic Party as the 2026 election season continues.
