Albuquerque, NM(KKOB) – Both Eastbound and Westbound lanes of traffic on I-40 are shut down at Tramway Blvd., N.E., due to a fatal crash involving Bernalillo County Sheriff’s sergeant.
Eastbound traffic is being diverted south on Tramway to Central Ave. Westbound traffic is being diverted at the Carnuel exit.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office confirms the sergeant was killed in the line of duty while conducting a traffic stop on I-40 eastbound near Carnuel.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible as lane closures will continue for several hours as the investigation is on-going.
