Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — New Mexico lawmakers have unanimously approved Senate Bill 37, a measure aimed at standardizing high-quality literacy instruction statewide. The governor has announced she will sign the bill into law. The act mandates evidence-based reading practices, consistent assessments to identify students needing help, and added support for families. It also expands professional development and coaching for educators in schools with the greatest need. State data shows reading proficiency has improved significantly since 2022, with some of the strongest gains among historically underserved student groups.
