Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –A major zoning change proposal will be one of the topics discussed at tonight’s Albuquerque city council meeting. The proposal would change R-1 single family dwellings to R-2 Residential town home zoning essentially changing the design of an existing neighborhood. City Councilor Renee Grout told KKOB today, “it would be permissible to build a town home or duplex in any one R-1 zoned district and as permissible, so there would be no conditional use, which means basically your neighbor can change the design of their home, they can tear it down and build something different, and you can’t say anything about it.” Councilor Grout went on to say, “what is concerning about this is that it’s a huge change across the city and not everybody knows about it.” She believes that density belongs on the corridors of the city and that a one-size-fits-all plan is not the solution for Albuquerque. The city council meeting begins at 5pm tonight.
