Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The City of Albuquerque has a new automated ticketing system device. The solar-paneled SafetyStick has been installed around the city in no-parking zones. The no-parking zones include yellow curbs, red curbs, and bike lanes. It could also be placed in school zones, crosswalks, and bus stops in high-use areas. When a car parks at one of the locations for more than 90 seconds, the device will take a picture of the license plate, and they’ll receive a ticket in the mail. There was no cost to the city for the devices. But 50% of the revenue collected from fines will go to their partner in the endeavour, Municipal Parking Services. The tickets start at $30 and will double, then triple if left unpaid. Violators will start to receive warnings on February 17th, and tickets will begin to be issued on March 18th.
