ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – Jurors have now been selected in the State of New Mexico’s high‑profile lawsuit against Meta Platforms, marking a key step forward in a case that has drawn national attention. The First Judicial District Court seated the panel late Tuesday evening, selecting 10 women and eight men — 12 jurors and six alternates.
The trial stems from the state’s claims that Meta’s platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, harm children and teens through design features intended to keep users engaged. Previous hearings focused on expert testimony, evidence rules, and the state’s broader allegations that Meta misled the public about the risks its products pose to young people. Meta has denied wrongdoing in earlier filings.
With jury selection complete, the case now moves to opening statements, scheduled for Monday, Feb. 9, at 9 a.m. in Santa Fe. The trial is expected to span several weeks as both sides present evidence regarding Meta’s practices and their impact on youth.
More updates will be provided as the proceedings continue.
