Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Last month U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers inspected a 2012 Dodge Ram heading to Mexico at an El Paso area port of entry and found $40,320 in undeclared currency inside the driver’s jacket. Later the same day border officers discovered anomalies in the trunk of a blue 2012 Chevrolet Sonic driven by a U.S. citizen into El Paso from Juarez. A drug-sniffing dog alerted officers to the presence of narcotics before they found thirteen bundles of cocaine weighing 15.92 kilos. CBP officials said the cash seizures indicate attempts by criminal organizations in Mexico to repatriate profits back south.
