Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – New Mexico recorded 454 traffic deaths in 2025, up slightly from 445 the year before, according to a new report from the University of New Mexico and the state Department of Transportation.
Bernalillo County saw the most fatalities at 113, followed by McKinley County with 38 and Doña Ana County with 35. Despite the increase, some key areas improved. Alcohol-related deaths dropped nearly 28 percent. Pedestrian fatalities also declined.
NMDOT credits long-term coordination between law enforcement and community programs. Ongoing road projects include westbound closures at Second and Rio Bravo through February 21, the Oñate Bridge reopening this spring, and full restoration of a damaged I-10 bridge in Lordsburg.
