Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –Affordable broadband for low income residents may be available if Senate Bill 152 passes this legislative session. The bill would set aside $10 million to subsidize monthly internet costs for qualifying households due to the expiration of the federal Affordable Connectiviity Program. If passed the bill would create a state-level alternative to the federal program. The money would come from the State Rural Universal Service fund which reserves tens of millions of dollars for broadband-related programs. The PRC would then be responsible for setting eligibility requirements and determining discount amounts.
