Bernalillo County, NM — A westbound stretch of Rio Bravo Boulevard SW near Second Street has been reduced to one lane as construction continues on the Rio Bravo and Second Street Intersection Project.
From January 20 through February 21, crews will remove and replace deteriorated concrete at the intersection. The temporary traffic change affects westbound drivers approaching and moving through Second Street.
The lane restrictions are part of a larger Bernalillo County effort to rebuild and expand Rio Bravo Boulevard. The full project includes:
- Widening Rio Bravo from four lanes to six
- New pedestrian facilities on the north side of the roadway
- ADA‑compliant improvements to the southside trail
- A rebuilt railroad crossing designed to match the wider roadway
County officials expect the project to be completed by May 2026.
Separately, the New Mexico Department of Transportation will rebuild the Rio Bravo bridge to align with the county’s six‑lane configuration. Although adjacent, the bridge work is a separate project.
