Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –With the 2026 NM Legislature beginning today capital outlay will be a topic of discussion. NM lawmakers are faced with more than $7 billion in unspent balances for some 6,000 unfinished projects across NM. The Legislative Finance Committee on Monday endorsed 10 bills that will be introduced during the 30 day session, one bill would restrict reauthorizations and new appropriations of capital outlay amid a growing backlog of projects that remain unfinished. Charles Sallee, LFC director, told the Santa Fe New Mexican, “the bill is really intended to make sure projects get done to benefit New Mexicans across the state.” Unspent funds and unfinished projects has been a concern for lawmakers for many years.
