Silver City, NM (KKOB) – An emotional court appearance for a mother charged with murdering her own child during a December standoff in Grant County.
35-year-old Madeline Daly, broke down in tears as Judge Thomas Stewart ordered her held without bond until trial. Daly who is originally from Wyoming, is accused of killing her 11-month-old son during a standoff near Silver City. Prosecutors argued Daly poses a danger to the community and the child’s father. Grant County deputies say, Daly shot and killed her son in December after barricading herself inside an RV. Court documents show Daly later confessed, saying she intended to kill herself but didn’t act fast enough. She faces first-degree murder and child abuse charges.
During a hearing, Judge Stewart also said Daly was a risk to the child’s father and his family., “It does appear to me that there’s substantial evidence that indicates that this crime was probably committed, and it was probably committed by you, and the statements that were made to law enforcement after your apprehension also lead the court to be concerned for your own personal safety,” said Judge Thomas Stewart, Grant County District Court.
